Knowing your own AI visibility score is useful, but it only tells half the story. By adding competitors to CogNerd, you can see exactly how your brand stacks up against others in your space — on the same AI platforms, using the same scoring methodology. The competitor view shows you where rivals appear in AI answers and you don’t, which is where your biggest optimization opportunities are.
1

Go to the Competitors dashboard

In the left sidebar, click Competitors, or navigate directly to /dashboard/competitors.
2

Add a competitor

Click Add Competitor and enter the competitor’s brand name — use the name as it publicly appears (e.g., “Notion”, “Linear”, “Salesforce”).Repeat this for each competitor you want to track. There’s no hard limit on the number of competitors you can add.
CogNerd tracks competitors on the same AI platforms it monitors for your own brand, so comparisons are always like-for-like.
3

Review the side-by-side comparison

Once competitors are added, the dashboard displays a comparison view with:
  • Visibility scores — your brand’s score versus each competitor’s, all on the same 0–100 scale
  • Platform breakdown — which AI platforms mention each brand, and how often
  • Mention counts — total number of times each brand is cited across all platforms
Use the platform breakdown to identify which AI systems your competitors appear on that you currently don’t.

Find and act on gaps

Look for platforms where a competitor has a strong presence but your brand shows little or no visibility. These gaps represent the clearest opportunities to improve.Common next steps after identifying gaps:
  • Generate or update your GEO files to improve how AI models read your site
  • Publish AI-optimized content that targets topics your competitors rank for
  • Run an AEO report to find structural issues holding your brand back
Add your top two or three direct competitors first rather than a large list. A focused comparison is easier to act on and gives you a clearer picture of the competitive landscape.
Competitor data updates on the same schedule as your brand’s analysis. Re-run your Brand Analysis periodically to get fresh visibility scores for everyone in your comparison.
